Keeping It Real

ACON Westie, The West Ball, and Ending HIV are excited to launch our collaborative campaign: Keeping It Real.

Keeping It Real is a tribute to LGBTQ+ people living in Western Sydney – to the many ways we live our truth, on our own terms, and in our own expressions.

For many of us in Western Sydney, expressing our LGBTQ+ identity is not always straightforward. It’s often a negotiation – with our cultures, our families, and our communities. Sometimes that means keeping things more low-key, blending in rather than standing out. But that doesn’t make us less valid, or mean that we’re ashamed of who we are. It’s a deliberate choice – one that reflects our resilience, culture, and pride in identity.

In Western Sydney, living our truth also means looking after ourselves and each other. It shows in how we express our identity, how we show up for our community, and even how we protect one another from STIs and HIV. This is the at the heart of Keeping It Real – highlighting the everyday moments of LGBTQ+ Westies living our truth in the area. Because keeping it real isn’t just about how we live – it’s also about how we care for our health, our community, and ourselves.
