We’ve reached a turning point.
Simple-to-take, highly effective treatment with far fewer side effects can reduce HIV viral load to undetectable levels. When combined with greatly increased testing rates, consistent condom use and/or use of other risk reduction strategies, there is potential to dramatically reduce transmission of HIV in gay communities across Australia.
To end HIV, we’ll need to reach 90% uptake of treatment among HIV-positive gay men. It’s achievable but only if more people are able to access treatment earlier.
We need to work together to end the HIV epidemic: test more regularly, access treatment earlier, and encourage our partners, friends and colleagues to test and treat.
