You can have an HIV test at your doctor’s surgery or at a specialist sexual health clinic, including a small but growing number of specialist rapid HIV testing clinics.

Before the test, you’ll see a doctor, trained counsellor, a nurse or other health professional in private, who will explain what the test involves and what the result will mean. This is called Pre-Test Discussion.

All HIV test results are confidential and cannot be disclosed to anyone not legally entitled to the information.
